Geo 101 Seminar for PGDRF

NGAP’s GEO 101 in Action: Building Capacity for the Philippine Geothermal Resource Derisking Facility (PGRDF)

The National Geothermal Association of the Philippines, Inc. (NGAP), in collaboration with the Department of Energy (DOE), successfully conducted the Geothermal 101 Seminar (GEO 101) on February 26–27, 2026 to support the upcoming implementation of the Philippine Geothermal Resource Derisking Facility (PGRDF). The PGRDF is a strategic initiative between the Department of Energy (DOE) and LANDBANK, with funding support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and is designed to assist early-stage geothermal exploration by addressing high upfront costs and risks.

Over the two-day sessions, participants from LANDBANK and the DOE Technical Evaluation Team were introduced to the fundamentals of geothermal energy and a comprehensive walkthrough of the geothermal project lifecycle —from exploration and resource assessment to development, operations, and project management.

Key Highlights:

  • Overview of geothermal energy and regulatory frameworks
  • Exploration techniques, drilling, and resource modeling
  • Development processes including engineering, feasibility studies, and power plant construction
  • Insights into geothermal operations and project management

The seminar featured expert speakers from NGAP and industry professionals who shared valuable knowledge and practical experience to strengthen participants’ understanding of geothermal development and how projects are evaluated and advanced based on technical merit.

This initiative aims to ensure that financing decisions are well-informed, enabling funds to be efficiently directed toward high-potential geothermal projects and accelerating their development.

With around 20–30 participants, the training marks another step forward in building institutional capacity and supporting sustainable energy initiatives in the Philippines.

NGAP remains committed to advancing geothermal expertise and fostering collaboration across sectors for a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
