Wellbore modeling workshop held at the RBC tower conference room last June 30, 2025.
Sequent provided an overview of their wellbore modeling software “Gudrun” which was designed to provide insights on a well performance. The training was done by John Clearwater, a geothermal reservoir engineer, who co-developed the Volsung, a numerical geothermal reservoir simulation software and Gudrun is its standalone wellbore simulator application. The course covered the following topic:
- Setting up a wellbore model in Gudrun: Defining the well track, casing, heat loss and feed zone properties
- Defining thermodynamic conditions of the fluid
- Specifying field data
- Calibrating the model to flowing pressure, temperature, and spinner (PTS) data
- Calculating a production well deliverability curve
- Forecasting changes in well performance in response to changes in reservoir and well conditions
The training was participated by NGAP members from EDC, PGPC, MGI, APRI and DOE.
