Lea Carmelia D. Fernandez or Aya is a seasoned geoscientist and business leader with over 15 years of experience in geothermal energy development and production. Currently serving as the Business Support Manager at Maibarara Geothermal, Inc., she provides strategic direction to ensure operational alignment with organizational goals, while concurrently fulfilling the role of Quality Management Systems Coordinator for ISO 9001:2015 compliance.
Before transitioning into management, Aya held the position of Geoscience Supervisor at Maibarara, where she was part of the pioneering team responsible for the development and operation of the 31 MW geothermal power plant in Sto. Tomas, Batangas. Her technical expertise spans geothermal well design, geochemical monitoring, and collaborative resource management.
Aya holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of the Philippines - Diliman and a Postgraduate Certificate in Geothermal Energy Technology from the University of Auckland. She is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration through the AIM-UWA Program, with completion expected in 2025.
An active member of the Geological Society of the Philippines since 2009, Aya also serves on the Board of Trustees of the National Geothermal Association of the Philippines (2024–2027) as Secretary. Her commitment to education and outreach is reflected in her previous role as a Special Lecturer in geology at Adamson University.
