Geothermal Sites
Makiling-Banahaw
The Makiling–Banahaw (Mak-Ban) geothermal steam field is located in the buffer zone of the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve. The aggregate length of pipelines in the field is about 72 kilometers, roughly equivalent to the distance between Mak-Ban and Manila. Mak-Ban’s over 100 wells span seven barangays in the Laguna–Batangas area, considered a growing industrial location and one of the most densely populated areas for geothermal operations. Land conversion remains a challenge, but Mak-Ban’s continued operations are proof that sound business and communities can coexist.
The Mak-Ban geothermal steam field is considered one of the most productive in the world. Despite having a smaller area of operation than Tiwi, the Mak-Ban Geothermal Complex has a bigger reservoir capacity.
